Mighty Yellow Loses But Come Out Winners
Mighty Yellow Loses
But Come Out Winners
By Coach Joie Fadde
A hard fought series was played this weekend between Vinny's Plum Tomato Pizza Restaurant (Mighty Yellow) and Lawrence Pharmacy for the Minor Girls Softball Championship of the Rockaway Little League.
These teams are two of the best in the division and the caliber of play definitely confirmed that. Coming into the series, these two teams had faced each other in the regular season two times, with each team coming away with a well-earned victory.
This weekend was no different as both teams faced each other again in an exciting series predicted by all. In the end, Lawrence Pharmacy came out with 5-0 and 4-1 victories, to take the best of three series. Our hats go off to Lawrence Pharmacy for their victories.
At the end of the game, the second place trophies were distributed to Vinny's Plum Tomato Pizza Restaurant along with the following special awards: Rookie of the Year - Gabriela Pires; Most Improved Player - Angela Aiello; Sportsmanship Award - Danielle Miley; and the team voted for the Most Valuable Player - Milagros Clarke.
As the coach of Vinny's Plum Tomato Pizza Restaurant, who adopted the name "Mighty Yellow" due to their uniform colors, I would like to take this time to say what a pleasure it has been to have been your coach this season. In my book, you are all winners, because you played your hearts out all season long, never taking anything for granted. Most of all, I think all of you had fun, both on the field, and off. Even in defeat, you held your heads up high. That is the mark of true champions, and I truly wish I were able to give an MVP award to each of you, because you all deserve it.
With the help of my assistant coaches, Rob Mugavin and Mike O'Connor, as well as all the parents, we were able to take a group of young ladies, some who had never before picked up a ball or bat, and help mold them into a championship caliber team. I would like to take the time and mention each of you by name. Angela Aiello, Milagros Clarke, Kirsten Fischl, Amanda Flores, Chelsea Flores, Kathryn Foris, Kathleen Fulton, Danielle Miley, Teresa Miley, Alexandra Mugavin, Fallon Mullen, Shannon O'Connor, Gabriela Pires, Christina Salinas, Maria Sanz and Rebecca Ultsh.
To all the parents, I want to thank you too, because without your dedication to getting your girls to the practices, and yes, I know there were a lot of them, and the games, we would never had made it as far as we did. I hope all my future seasons of coaching will work out as well as this one.
I don't know what each of you will take away from this season, but I hope you remember that each of you is a champion and can accomplish anything if you put your mind to it. I wish you luck in everything you choose to pursue and will see some of you next year up in the Majors.
