Fly ‘Old Glory’ For Amendment

Fly 'Old Glory' For Amendment

Dear Editor;

I thank you for your gracious acceptance of my letter concerning the travesty that occurred with the Ninth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals decision on June 26, 2002, that "Under God" in our Country's Pledge of Allegiance violates the U.S. Constitution as an endorsement of religion. This decision was termed "ridiculous" from President Bush, and American Legion National Commander Richard J. Santos, as well as other prominent legislators in statements immediately released after this debacle of judicial liberalism was made public. I only feel that the term "ridiculous" is too mild a term, as this Court is obviously spending too much time in certain sections of San Francisco where those retreads of the "60's" still have not grown up and faced reality.

I ask several "common sense" related questions of the Court's decision, and of all Americans!

"If the word "God" makes the Pledge unconstitutional, are not the oaths taken by witnesses in the very same courtrooms also unconstitutional?"

"Do these judges believe that United States currency, which has the statement "In God We Trust" engraved on it, somehow violates the Constitution?"

"Each session of Congress starts with a prayer. What would they have us believe, that our elected representatives who took an oath, "to uphold & defend the Constitution," are also in violation of our Constitution?"

"Are these judges saying that millions of American schoolchildren are to be deprived of the privilege of reciting the "Pledge of Allegiance" because one person and two judges are offended by the mention of God?"

If the Pledge of Allegiance is unconstitutional, so is the Declaration of Independence, since it refers to "nature's God," a "Creator" and the "Protection of divine providence."

The majority of American people know this is wrong! They will not be swayed by the twisted logic of judges, who have taken prayer out of schools and ruled that burning our Nations' Flag, "Old Glory," is free speech!

The decisions cannot stand! We believe the American people will not allow them to stand. And The American Legion will stand with the American people all the way to the Supreme Court, not only in support of "The Pledge of Allegiance," but also with the ultimate passage of SJR 7, "The U.S. Flag Protection Amendment," to protect our nation's flag from physical desecration!

This issue has the support of 80% of the people of our great land, as well as all 50 State Legislatures! SJR 7 is only three votes short of passage, and we continue to search for the real reason as to why a minority of Senators is not listening to the will of the people, and return it to the States for ratification? We need every "American" to stand up on these issues, and join the fight to regain our national heritage! The proposed Constitutional Amendment would restore to the American People their right to protect "Old Glory"! Free speech will still be open, free flowing, and robust. One act of physical desecration is too many. "It Is Time!" Show your colors, America! Fly Old Glory daily until the Flag Amendment is passed!
