Ferry Service to Manhattan (Letter sent to FEMA)

Ferry Service to Manhattan

(Letter sent to FEMA)

Dear Mr. Picciano;

Funding to establish and maintain ferry service from Rockaway to Manhattan has been requested by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. This ferry service would be an invaluable commuter option for our residents. Increased automotive ownership and less than adequate transportation alternatives have increased congestion. Ensuring security on roads and bridges has contributed to additional delays. An additional transportation option will help relieve congestion.

The access that ferry service would provide is an important part of efforts to help the Rockaways recover from the events of September 11 and the crash of American Airlines flight 587. Not only will it serve as an invaluable resource for Queens residents, but it will increase visitors to our community.

I look forward to working with you on this important issue.
