A Sense of Safety in Rockaway

A Sense of Safety in Rockaway

Dear Editor;

I have been considering living in Nassau and have found more corruption that I have ever believed possible. The police do not come to apprehend auto drivers who back into sidewalk pedestrians and drive away, nor do they want to find a girl who physically attacked a 62-year old woman, threw her into a glass store window and walked away.

The Nassau police of Lynbrook told her to call Hewlett police at first where the incident did not take occur. When I finally saw them (Lynbrook patrolman) their size was that of a fat man in the circus!! Being oversized is an addiction, and they cannot function properly as law enforcement agents!

I want all Rockawayites to know that I have felt very safe walking and shopping in Far Rockaway where I was born. I am sorry that a young person was killed in Lawrence. I truly believe that I was safe crossing streets in Far Rockaway, as well.

The sense in the Five Towns and Lynbrook, Rockville Center, etc, have changed since I grew up in Hewlett, and I wish to advise you that as senior citizens we will be living in Suffolk County where I have seen more civil and law abiding citizens like the ones I see in Far Rockaway!

I wish I had the paper that was printed in the 1940's with a picture of a young boy with blond curls playing on your beach! It was my brother. A great place to bring children up!
