Groundbreaking Set For Arverne By The Sea
Groundbreaking Set For
Arverne By The Sea
By Howard Schwach
For more than 35 years, the Arverne Urban Renewal Area has laid fallow, the object of many failed development plans.
If everything goes as planned, however, there will be a groundbreaking ceremony on Thursday, July 11 that will mark the beginning of a development plan that calls for more than 2,000 new market-rate homes.
The first section, centering on Beach 73 Street, will encompass 32 new two-family homes.
According to the developers, The Beechwood Organization and Benjamin Development, the development will eventually include a wide choice of homes, including detached, semi-detached single family and two-family homes, as well as mid-rise condominiums.
There will be five "distinctly designed" neighborhoods connected by park land and greenbelts, a new 800-seat school, a day care center, a community center with an indoor pool and fitness center, a new boardwalk along the oceanfront and a new transit plaza that will include shops.
Billed as "New York City's new oceanfront hometown," the development will take several years to complete.
The public is invited to the groundbreaking ceremony, which will take place on July 11 at 11 a.m. at Beach 73 Street and Rockaway Beach Boulevard.
At that time, the Arverne By The Sea Information Center will be open and renderings as well as home plans will be available.
