A tribute and thank you was expressed to our Firemen and Policemen & Ambulance Corps in Breezy and Rockaway Point the annual St. Thomas More annual show, "American Hero" held in their parish hall, Thursday and Friday evenings. Ed Deacy's "The Town I love so well" and Sr. Beata Gerrity with her Firemen's song were the most outstanding singers followed closely by Al Voi' s "Too Young", "Did It My Way and" New York, New York", Catherine Tennyson's "Till There Was You." Of course the whole cast, including the children who almost stole the show, did a fine job. Many, many accolades to musical director, Gary Pace and his talented combo, who all did an outstanding job to bring life to all the numbers. Those missed from last year's cast were: Jim Brady, who had a good excuse due to his illness, but his presence was evident in the audience and he looks great; Theresa Bennett (McClusky), Katey Gallagher, Eleanor and John McNamee and a few others were missed as well. Maryellen Barnes can add another successful show to her roster. She had a great dance coach, Vilma Jones who, I am sure worked very hard on the dance routines in "Dancing Queen," and "New York, New York." This is the Army and Old Favorites were good singing numbers. The Catholic Club Pipe and Drums added that special something that you knew belonged in a Breezy Point Show. Maryellen wants me to remind you that July 8th is the Teen Show at the Colony. Don't miss it!

It was a PARTY! And, what a party it was for retired Father Hugh A. Byrne on Sunday that followed his last mass. There was food (plenty of it) liquid refreshments (even wine) music, dancing, singing and lots of fun, elegant and moving farewell speech with a referral to Hughie and the Book Club .was given by Margurite Hyland. Her sister, Ann Heslin wrote one farewell tune we all sang to "Bless"'em all". Bob Cass kept the party going with his danceable numbers on the piano They could have danced all dayâ026.and Father Byrne must have worn his dancing shoes out. We all had a good, good time and wish him the best of happiness in his future days of leisure he so well deserves. Whatever he does I am sure he will still be an inspiration to those with whom he comes in contact and will leave them with plenty of food for thought. He recommends we read "New Christianity/New World," by John Shelby Spong. As we departed the parish hall, Fr. Byrne left a large number of books for the takingâ026..and for the thinking.

At mass I turned and thought I saw a rainbow. There was most certainly a rainbow of colors as you looked at Vera Lynch, Mary O'Rourke and Millie Donnelly, each dressed in a color and hat to compliment the other. Very pretty. Vera wants to remind you about the 20 year Golf Club celebration on July 11, be at the Catholic Club. Tee off time is 7:30AM at Riis Park golf course, but if you just wish to attend the luncheon be the Catholic Club by 12 noon. Gale Gabriel (a true angel) who collects angels, was at the retirement party mentioned she and husband, John, celebrated her son, John Jr's 31st birthday. Daughter Mary is backpacking in Europe.

August Marino was brunching at Kennedy's with friends while she is recovering from bi-lateral knee surgery.

Richard Coyne was at the bar. He is the bartender at the new Irish Circle introduced me to John Ferring, from Mt. Vernon, who was visiting mother-in-law. John is the manageing agent for Gloria Page.

Happy, happy birthday to Peter Danzilo who was so pleased to have daughter Christine (who looks just great) fly in from California to be with him and his other daughter, Maria and husband, Richard Lehv, their daughter, Hollis and the new adorable twins, Clara and Peter, to share his birthday dinner with wife, Helene. His sister, Barbara Genoese came over also to wish him many, many more healthy, happy years. It was another beautiful meal in their gorgeous "Pink Palace". And, we all wish Peter the best of years to come, which he so deserves.

His daughter, Christine was so delightful and enjoyed her visit with Dad. She was so happy to be back in Breezy. What a great time she had with her past good buddy, John Crowley (former Breezy Point volunteer Fireman Chief), Jack Crowley's son who was up from Florida for a school reunion. They danced the night away at the new Henny's in the Colony that is only open for drinks right now. This new restaurant is due to open in a few weeks.
