Jeanne M. Alpert
Guidance Counselor

Jeanne M. Alpert, born in Manhattan, was a long time resident of the Rockaway community who died on June 26, 2002.

Jeanne worshipped at St. Francis de Sales Church and was employed with the New York City Board of Education as a guidance counselor.

She is survived by her husband, Gary S. Alpert; father, Laurence Skelly, mother, Margaret (nee Creagh) Skelly; daughter, Meghan Alpert; brothers, Joseph and Laurence Skelly; and sister, Margaret Suslak.

A funeral mass will be held on June 28, 9:45 a.m., at St. Francis de Sales.

Interment under the direction of Dens S. O'Connor Funeral Home, Inc. will be held at Pinelawn Memorial Park.

Helen Cohen
Homemaker

Helen Cohen, born in New York City, was a resident of the Rockaway community for 53-years. She passed away on June 22, 2002.

Helen spent the majority of her life as a homemaker. She had a number of hobbies, such as needlepoint and crochet. She was a member of the West End Temple for 52 years. She also was a life member of the Ladies Guild of the West End Temple; a life member of Hadassah, Past President of the Judith Group Chapter of Rockaway Park; a life member of the West End Auxiliary; a past member of the Board of Directors at Peninsula Hospital Center; and a former member of the Lawrence Country Club.

Philanthropy was a big part of Helen's life. She and her late husband gave to many organizations and causes throughout their lives. Some of those included the United Jewish Appeal (UJA), the Israel Bond Drive and others.

Helen is preceded in death by her husband Edward "Eddie" B. Cohen, who was a past President of the West End Temple Men's Club and past President of the Temple; parents, Albert and Bertha Winter; sister and brother-in-law, Bernice and Tony Monaco; and brother, Maurice Winter.

She is survived by her daughter, Patricia Coniglio; son, Ricky Cohen; daughter and son-in-law; Ronni and David Spudich; son and daughter-in-law; Howard and Robin Cohen; grandchildren, Jay Coniglio and Deborah, Robert and Karen Coniglio, Dina Coniglio, Steven Cohen, Jeffrey and Allison Cohen, and Elizabeth Cohen; niece, Ellen Monaco; and other loving family members, Coleridge Tappin, Joey Coniglio and Elaine Cohen.

Interment was held at Mount Ararat in Farmingdale, New York.

Helen Fisk Duckman
Retired Nurse

Helen Fisk Duckman, born in Franklin, New Jersey, was a 48-year resident of Neponsit. She passed away on June 21, 2002 at the age of 85.

Helen served as a member, then director, of the Lady's Auxiliary of Brooklyn Hospital. She also served on a variety of different committees at the hospital, and she volunteered for other health organizations. In her spare time she was an avid golfer and reader.

Earlier, Helen worked as a registered nurse, working side by side with her husband, Dr. Simon Duckman.

She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Simon; children, Linda, Robert, and Matthew; 4 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.

Interment under the direction of J.J. Morris Funeral Home was conducted at Mount Carmel Cemetery in Queens.

Mary Ann Fielack
Loved By Many

Mary Ann Fielack (nee Claire), born in Rockaway Beach, residing in Satellite Beach, Florida, died on June 16, 2002.

She is survived by her husband, Lou; children, Matthew, Louis, Debra Vanuti, Raymond and Robert; five grandchildren; brothers, Francis and Jeremiah Claire; and sister, Eileen O'Brien.

A Memorial Mass will be held on June 29, 9:45 a.m., at St. Rose of Lima.

Interment will take place at St. Charles Roman Catholic Cemetery in Farmingdale, New York.

Anne M. Hornung
Rockaway Park

Anne M. Hornung, born in Manhattan, was a 30-year resident of Rockaway Park who died on June 25, 2002.

Anne was a homemaker who worshipped at Our Lady of Grace, and she was an active member of Our Lady of Grace Rosary Society in Howard Beach.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Henry A. Hornung; and son, John J. Hornung.

She is survived by her daughters, Maureen Hornung, Anne Marie Ruffino, Patricia A. Valk, and Bethanne Hemminger; sons, Mickey, Peter, and Walker Hornung; brothers, Edward, Jimmy, and John Walker; and 20 grandchildren.

A Funeral Mass will be held at Our Lady of Grace, in Howard Beach, on June 28 at 10:15 a.m.

Interment under the direction of Denis S. O'Connor Funeral Home, Inc. will be held at Calvary Cemetery.

Helen Lupo
Dearly Missed

Helen Lupo, born in Queens, was a 30-year resident of Belle Harbor, coming from Bay Ridge. She passed away on June 23, 2002.

Helen worshipped at St. Francis de Sales Church, and spent most of her life as a devoted homemaker. She was a member of several clubs, including St. Francis Seniors, St. Camillus Golden Age, and St. Rose Golden Age.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Lupo.

She is survived by her daughter, Rosemarie Lindo; sons, Frank and Joseph R. Lupo; three grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.

Interment under the direction of Denis S. O'Connor Funeral Home, Inc. was held at Calvary Cemetery.

Helen Nalesnik
Rockaway Beach

Helen Nalesnik, born in Manhattan, was a five year resident of the Rockaway Beach community who passed away on June 24, 2002.

Helen worshipped at St. Rose of Lima Church and was a homemaker.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Stephen Nalesnik.

She is survived by her sisters, Mary Dash and Angela Grasse; and niece, Mary Hughes.

A funeral mass will be conducted at St. Rose of Lima on June 28 at 9 a.m.

Interment under the direction of Denis S. O'Connor Funeral Home, Inc. will be held at Schenevus Cemetery.

Richard E. Phillips
NY Telephone Foreman

Richard E. Phillips, born in Manhattan, was a 15-year resident of Belle Harbor who died on June 22, 2002.

Richard was employed as a foreman with New York Telephone, and served in the United States Navy, during World War II, for six years.

He is survived by his daughters, Christine Brunner and Kathleen Morris; four grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.

Interment under the direction of Denis S. O'Connor Funeral Home was held at Evergreen Cemetery.

Mattie Seabrook
Organist

Mattie Seabrook, a long time resident of Rockaway, passed away on June 25, 2002 at Peninsula Hospital.

Mattie was well known to the Rockaway community as a pianist and organist.

A special service will be held on July 2 at the Community Baptist Church in Lakeville, Long Island, at 9:30 a.m.

Edward L. Valentine
Supervisor

Edward L. Valentine, born in Brooklyn, was a life long resident of Rockaway Point who passed away on June 24, 2002.

Edward worshipped at St. Thomas More Church, and worked as a supervisor with the New York City Department of Environmental Protection. He was a member of the Rockaway Point Volunteer Fire Department, and a United States Army veteran during World War II.

He is survived by his daughters, Deborah Walker, Joan Valentine, and Kathleen Fahy; sons, Gregory, William, Edward, Gerard, and Matthew Valentine; brother, Benedict Valentine; and 11 grandchildren.

Funeral arrangements were handled under the direction of Denis S. O'Connor Funeral Home, Inc.

William J. Wolf
Longshoreman

William J. Wolf, born in Brooklyn, was a 21-year resident of Rockaway Point, coming from Middle Village. He died on June 25, 2002.

William worshipped at St. Genevieve Church and worked as a longshoreman. He was also a member of the Roxbury Catholic Club.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Catherine (nee Trainor) Wolf.

He is survived by his son, Brian Wolf; daughters, Denise and Karen Wolf; brothers, James and Joseph Wolf; and loving friend, Judy Wagner.

Visitation will take place at the Denis S. O'Connor Funeral Home, Inc. on June 29 and 30, from 2-5 p.m. and 7-10 p.m. on both dates.

A funeral mass will be conducted at St. Genevieve Church on July 1 at 10 a.m.

Interment under the direction of Denis S. O'Connor Funeral Home, Inc. will be held at Calvary Cemetery.

Theresa M. Zwick
IBM System Analyst

Theresa M Zwick, born in Brooklyn, was a former resident of Breezy Point who died on June 22, 2002.

Theresa worshipped at St. Thomas More Church and worked as a System Analyst for IBM.

She is preceded in death by her mother, Marie (nee Ryan) Zwick.

She is survived by her father, William J. Zwick; brother, Joseph Zwick; and sister, Marie Zwick.

Interment under the direction of Denis S. O'Connor Funeral Home, Inc. was held at Holy Cross Cemetery.
