The Shame of St. John’s

The Shame of St. John's

Dear Editor;

I am currently a member of the United States Air Force, but before joining our great military I was a volunteer for the Rockaway Point Volunteer Fire Department. Unfortunately, I have had to deal with St. John's Episcopal a number of times. Their ER is in shambles, and the nurses are as rude as can be. They would let someone who is having difficulty breathing just sit there with a pulse Ox Sat of 90 percent, without oxygen on, and then just leave them unattended for a long time. When I had gone there with different patients they would look at us and in front of the patient ask why the hell we brought the patient there and not somewhere else? I believe that if they could have, they would have completely refused the patients that we brought in. Something needs to be done, and I think that that something should be either new management or shut that hospital down and make Peninsula Hospital Center bigger. PHC is the best hospital on the Rockaway's anyway. The doctors, nurses, and staff are more receptive to the family, the patients and their needs. As far as the St. John's excuse about Sept. 11 and the removal of bodies, that is despicable and should not be tolerated by anyone. Thank you.
