Empty Promises of A Pool

Empty Promises of A Pool

Dear Editor;

I would like the Wave newspaper to investigate why Senators Schumer and Clinton, and Congressman Weiner continue to forget their promises to the people and the children of the Rockaways. They were all quick to say nice things to the people of the Rockaways who suffered from the tragedies of 9/11 and the American Airlines plane crash.

What ever happened to Senator Schumer's promise "if I am elected you will get your pool." Well Schumer was elected and no pool, all we got was a $200,000 for a pool study. The people in the Rockaways also have been requesting a skateboard park for the kids and we still get nothing.

The Senators and the Congressman in my opinion do not understand the pool complex issue at Riis Park. The pool is for everyone in New York and for the rest of the country to come to the Rockaways and enjoy our beautiful beaches and to learn how to swim in our pool complex.

In my opinion Gateway National Park is a disgrace. It is not maintained properly and it is under used. Why don't the Senators and the Congressman tour the park and give us their opinions?

Maybe the people of the Rockaways should write a letter to Mr. Robert Tisch and have his wonderful foundation of "Take the Field" to do something for the children of the Rockaways. Or better yet maybe the people of the Rockaways should petition Ted Stevens (Alaska) Daniel Inouye (Hawaii) who take good care of their constituents and maybe they could help us get the pool complex.

This pool complex would mean even more to Rockaway after so many people were lost on 9/11 and on the American Airlines plane crash. This facility could be used by the relatives, children and friends of any who died in this greatly affected area.

ROBERT ROONEY
