A 46-year-old Rockaway man has been arrested by Nassau County police in connection with a carjacking and kidnapping that took place last week in the Bay Harbour Mall in Lawrence.
According to Nassau Police sources, Reginald Walker of Rockaway Beach allegedly assaulted an unidentified Nassau County woman when she pulled her 1994 Mercedes-Benz in the mall’s parking lot, heading for Marshall’s at about 6 p.m. on June 4.
"A door opens and in comes a guy who pulls a gun and pushes the victim into the passenger side of the vehicle," a police source says. "The guy took the wheel and drove away, demanding her money and jewelry."
Walker reportedly allowed her to leave the car at the intersection of Mott Avenue and Route 878 in Inwood. She flagged down a passing motorist and used his cell phone to call police.
Nassau County and NYPD units were contacted and began to look for the car.
An NCPD unit spotted the car and driver at Beach 28 Street and Collier Avenue in Far Rockaway.
The officers stopped the car and ordered Walker out. He had a gun in his waistband that turned out to be a BB-Gun, but he had the women’s wallet and jewelry on the rear seat.
Walker was charged with kidnapping in the second degree and two counts of robbery in the first degree. He was arraigned in the First District Court in Hempstead.
