Chatting With Chapey
The RM AC Painted the Town
The Queens Council of the Arts sponsored a wonderful Art Frenzy weekend in Fort Tilden. The Rockaway Music and Arts Council played a major role in the festivities.
Queens Borough President Helen Marshall joined the activities. She officially cut the ribbon for the Rockaway Moon Stage. Helen Marshall has a special love for the arts. She has always gone the extra mile (during her service in the New York State Assembly and the New York City Council) to encourage creative and artistic ventures in our borough.
The Rockaway Music and Arts Council (RMAC) sponsored an activity called - Transformation. It featured face and body painting. Two very talented artists - Christopher Agostino and Lorraine Zeller spent the afternoon creating the most magnificent faces. Through their creative genius they were able to paint each persons face in a special way. Although I had reviewed the activity before, I was amazed at the ability of these artists. In a few minutes they transformed the participants into living works of art. In addition, we were treated to a special performance of "Heads and Tales". Christopher Agostino and Lorraine Zeller delighted us with a very creative story. They invited members of the audience to join the performance, to have their faces painted and to become part of the story line. It was very entertaining. Everyone was delighted.
If you are sponsoring a party I would strongly recommend calling Agostino Arts for a brochure or contact them at agostinoarts.com.

Barbara Eisenstadt and Sharon Gabriel lead a very vibrant committee. Each member brings a special expertise. Through their combined efforts we have an outstanding concert series this summer. We are looking forward to the Sunday evening Sunset Picnic Concert Series in Fort Tilden sponsored by the Rockaway Music and Arts Council. I hope that you will join us on Sunday, June 30th at 6 P.M. for a "God Bless America Concert" featuring Oscar Brand, a folk music icon.
On a sad note, I must mention the terrible loss that we feel with the passing of Bot Weiss. Bot and Rabbi Joseph Weiss of the West End Temple were outstanding individuals in our community whose lives really made a difference. They touched each one of us. I had many hour-long conversations with Bot. She had a special flare, a brilliant intellect and a fantastic sense of humor. She will always be remembered.
