Reevaluate Firehouse Move

Reevaluate Firehouse Move

Dear Editor;

I strongly urge our City Council to re-evaluate the present status and future of fire service to the Rockaways. There is a current proposal to move L. 121 further east than its present location on Beach 58. That leaves only L. 137 to cover the entire west end for the first crucial minutes of fire response. Even as it stands now, Rockaway is an extended distance for the "next-due" trucks, L. 159 on Flatbush Avenue and L. 173 on Cross Bay Boulevard.

The respective Rescue and/or Squad companies that respond to major fires are nearly 20 minutes away. With closely built wood-frame houses popping up all over our community, in addition to the already present excess of nursing homes and adult homes, I believe the City Council and FDNY must evaluate deployment of their resources.
