A "Sign" of The Times

A "Sign" of The Times

Dear Editor;

They say a picture is worth a thousand words. You should have a photographer go to Beach 19 Street in Far Rockaway.

This is concerning the new safety signs that were put up, mainly, because of the drowning of the three girls last summer. People from certain civic groups wanted the new signs in English, Spanish and Russian, but they only have them in English and Spanish.

There are five signs posted from Beach 17 to Beach 19. Three are in English and two are in Spanish. The entrance on Beach 19 Street is used primarily by Russians living in that area, and the sign posted is in English. Not one sign is in Russian!

The other thing is that the letters on the signs, about a half an inch high, are so small that you have to practically kiss it to read it. I know these signs are too small to do any good, but it s a start. The fact that these signs are being vandalized does not help matters either. Like I said, you should have your photographer take a picture because it is worth a thousand words.
