Notes From The High C’s
Rockaway Music and Arts Council
This Saturday evening, June 1, will be the opening night premiere of The Rockaway Theatre Company production of "Lend Me A Tenor." The performance will be held in The Theatre Building at Ft. Tilden and the Champagne Reception, sponsored by the Rockaway Music & Arts Council will follow the performance and be held in the adjacent Chapel Building. This will be the second time that both the RTC and RMAC have co-sponsored an opening night event. Last year the production was "Come Blow Your Horn."
The play will start at 7:00 p.m. and the party will follow at 9:00 p.m. There is a special price for this event and information can be obtained by calling either The Rockaway Theatre Company of The Rockaway Music & Arts Council.
It is wonderful to see the different arts groups in Rockaway working together for the betterment of the community and we hope you will agree by attending this great event.
Through the generosity of many groups, there will be seven RMAC Sunset Picnic Concerts this summer rather than the five that are normally held. Starting off on June 30 will be a return engagement for folksinger Oscar Brand who is a wonderful performer. Mr. Brand is always generous with his time and always speaks with the audience following his performance.
On July 14 is another return engagement, Kenny Vance and the Planetones. Kenny is one of our own, living right here in Rockaway. The best rock and roll group around.
July 21 will showcase Enrique Lopez and the Rhythms of the Buena Vista Social Club. Many of you may have seen the original Buena Vista Social Club in special documentaries shown on Channel 13.
What can we say about the Long Island Pops. They are fantastic and will be performing on Sunday, July 28.
A very dynamic group will perform on August 11, a Concert for Steel Drum Orchestra. You have never seen anything like them. Just don’t think of your usual steel drum group. This is not like that at all.
The last concert is again something special. On Sunday, August 28 we will present a Tribute to Frank Sinatra with the Danny Vincent Orchestra featuring Jerry Cardone.
A great summer is ahead and it starts this weekend with "Lend Me A Tenor." Be at the performance on Saturday evening, June 1, and be part of this special event. We’ll be looking for you.
