The Beach Channel Dolphins Women’s Softball team continued its impressive regular season with a first round PSAL B playoff win. They defeated Environmental Studies, 14-3 last Tuesday in 5 innings.

The bottom of the third inning was the turning point, as BC scored 5 runs to break open a 2-2 tie. The inning was capped off a by a 2 run homer by First baseman Katreem Palmer, who finished the game with2 home runs and 6 RBI.

After struggling with control in the first two innings, Senior BC pitcher Lucia Sirica settled down to hold of Environmental with 5 innings, allowing 3 runs and 8 strikeouts. Dolphins head coach Robert Attonito was proud of the pitching this season as she now improves to 12-0. "Lucia has matured a lot in her pitching over the last few years, she has learned a lot," said Attonito.

The game was called off after 5 innings when the Dolphins scored a run to make the score 13-3. Attonito says that his offense "takes a while, but we really do hit the ball."

Centerfielder Natasha Simon added three hits and 3 RBI and leadoff hitter Jodi Vitale added 3 runs with 4 stolen bases to start the Dolphins attack.

Coach Attonito knows that his team is very talented and their next opponent, Far Rockaway, will be a competitive game for them. He really enjoys coaching the team this year. "They are really a good bunch of kids."

Beach Channel Notes

BC came into the game as the #2 seed in the PSAL B playoffs after compiling a 15-0 regular season record and winning the Queens IB division championship.

The Dolphins played their game at Beach Channel, which was the first game that BC played all year at their home field. They previously played their home games at M.S. 180. Beach Channel’s softball, baseball, football and track and field facilities had just finished extensive reconstruction, which was done by the Take the Field Project.

Far Rockaway Slams Leadership

# 18 seed Far Rockaway beat High School of Leadership and Public Service, 10-3 to advance to the second round to play Beach Channel. Far Rock beat Leadership at the Great Lawn at Central Park. Leadership had won the Manhattan II PSAL B championship with a 12-3 record.

Blanca Rojas was 3-for-4 and scored three times, and Shalaya Brown was 3-for-3 with 3 RBI. Far Rock improves to 13-3.

There will be results of the Far Rockaway-Beach Channel game next week because the game took place after the paper went to press.
