Two Parades To Honor Memorial Day

Two Parades To Honor Memorial Day

There will be two area parades to honor our veterans for the Memorial Day holiday. The first of those parades, sponsored by the Broad Channel Veteran's of Foreign Wars (VFW) will be held in Broad Channel on Sunday, May 26, beginning at 1 p.m. from 20 Road. That parade will continue to the Memorial Circle on Cross Bay Boulevard, where there will be a wreath-laying ceremony.

The Rockaway parade, sponsored by The Daniel M. O'Connell Post of the American Legion, will be held on Monday, May 27 beginning with a memorial mass at St. Francis de Sales Church at 11 a.m. The church is at Beach 129 Street and Rockaway Beach Boulevard.

After a short memorial prayer at the "Four Chaplains" Monument at the church, the parade will step off with stops at the Memorial Circle at Beach 122 Street and, finally, at the Doughboy Monument at Beach 92 Street, were memorial ceremonies will be held.
