He is survived by his wife Hyacinth; son Winston; daughter Pauline; daughter-in-law Lynette; son-in-law Norman; sister Sylvia; 10 grandchildren; several great grandchildren.

Interment under the direction of Jeremiah C. Gaffney's Funeral Home, Inc. was held at All Saints Cemetery.

Donnell Chan Cook
Maintenance

Donnell Chan Cook, born in Brooklyn, N.Y., was a long time resident of the Rockaway community. He passed away on May 5, 2002.

Donnell worked in maintenance at the John F. Kennedy Post Office. He served in the United States Navy.

He is preceded in death by his brother Ben Shawn Harris.

He is survived by his mother Irene Barbara Harris; wife Sydell; children Sharnell, Danielle, Sherelle, Daishell, Shantell, Dennell and Shamell; 4 brothers; 3 sisters; and a host of shipmates.

Interment under the direction of Jeremiah C. Gaffney's Funeral Home, Inc. was held at Calverton National Cemetery.

Julia Shelia Gilroy
Beloved Wife

Julia Shelia (nee O'Connell) Gilroy, born in County of Kerry, Ireland, was a 27 year resident of Rockaway Park. She passed away on May 11, 2002.

Julia worshipped at St. Frances de Sales, and was a Native of Lixnaw, Co., Kerry, Ireland.

She is preceded in death by her husband Peter Gilroy.

She is survived by her daughter Catherine Ettari; son William Gilroy; son-in-law Anthony Ettari; daughter-in-law Margaret Mary Gilroy; sisters Nora Curtin, Tess White and Bridget O'Connell; brothers Christopher, Patrick, Thomas, Timothy and William O'Connnell; grandchildren Juli Ettar, Anthony Ettari, Margaret Mary Gilroy and Lauryn Gilroy.

Interment under the direction of Denis S. O'Connor Inc was held at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.

Bernice Jakes
Domestic

Missionary Bernice Jakes, born in Bamberg, South Carolina, was a 60 year resident of the Rockaway Point. She passed away on April 30, 2002.

Bernice worshipped at St. Mark Holy Church, in Brooklyn, and spent most of her life as a domestic.

She is survived by his daughters Emma Brown and Beatrice Spann; 4 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; 3 great friends and a host of other relatives.

Interment under the direction of Jeremiah C. Gaffney's Funeral Home, Inc. was held at Cypress National Cemetery.

Arthur Franklin Johnson
Bus Driver

Arthur Franklin Johnson, born in Brooklyn, N.Y. was a resident of the Rockaway community. He passed away on May 5, 2002.

He was preceded in death by his brothers Booker Alexander, Edward, Mickey, and Alexander Johnson; sister Maggie Johnson.

He is survived by his wife Alice; sons Cory and Barry; daughters Audra, Olivia, Lisa and Laura; 12 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; sister Alice Turner and a host of other relatives.

Interment under the direction of Jeremiah C. Gaffney's Funeral Home, Inc. was held at Fresh Pond Cemetery.

Michael Lupo
Railroad Engineer

Michael Lupo, born in Long Island City, N.Y., passed away on May 13, 2002 at the age of 81.

Michael worked as a railroad engineer for Pennsylvania/Conrail and belonged to the Pfc John J. Oliver Post #1582, VFW, Inwood. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

He is preceded in death by his step child Lynda Basile

He is survived by his wife Vera (nee Grillo); son James Parker; daughter Patricia Dulfer; stepchildren Sandra Gonzales, Jack Rein; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren;

Interment under the direction of the Meserola Funeral Home Inc. was held at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Cemetery in North Lawrence.

Annie Monahan
Telephone Operator

Annie Monahan was a lifelong resident of the Rockaway community who died on May 10, 2002.

Annie worshipped at St. Rose of Lima Church, and worked as an operator for New York Telephone.

She was preceded in death by her husband George Monahan.

She is survived by her son James Monahan; sister Theresa Orr; 2 grandchildren Kathy and Kristina; also survived by nieces and nephews.

Interment under the direction of Denis S. O'Connor Inc was held at St. Mary's Star of The Sea Cemetery.

Rose B. Moran
Belle Harbor Resident

Rose B. Moran, born in Manhattan, N.Y. was a long time resident of Belle Harbor. She passed away on May 14, 2002.

Rose worshipped at St. Frances de Sales Church.

She is preceded in death by her brother Peter Charles Moran.

She is survived by her brothers James Moran and wife Annie; also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will take place at Denis S. O'Connor Funeral Home on May 21 from 2-4 p.m. and 7- 9 p.m.

Funeral Mass will be held on May 22 at 9:45 a.m. from St. Francis de Sales.

Interment under the direction of Denis S. O'Connor Inc will be held at Calvary Cemetery on May 22, 2002.
