Waste of Educational Money

Dear Editor;

I was pleased to read that Managing Editor Howard Schwach has filed for Freedom of Information requesting documentation relating to the rental or lease of District 27 office
located at 82-01 Rockaway Blvd.

If this were a time of a large and plentiful budget for education, having a 4-floor office
building to run District 27 would be acceptable and perhaps beneficial for both the district
as a whole and for those working within the District office.

However, being that the District's budget has been reduced drastically since last year. 
I cannot understand why District 27 would spend money on leasing or renting (as well as renovating,) with less money going for education.  Do many other Districts function from
a (4) floor office building?

Another area of money expenditures that I would also question is food.  I am not speaking
of school lunches for children.  I am referring too food supplied at meetings for Board of Ed. employees.  Large spreads have been offered ranging from choices of breakfasts to lunches
and possibly dinners.  Although this may seem petty on the surface District 27 has an abundant number of meetings within its 32 schools and the District Office.  Offering coffee and a bagel is courteous and understandable, anything more is extravagant and much too high a price tag for us the tax payers footing the bill, with less money going for education.  I am aware of this, since I had worked at the District for eleven months.
