Opposes Bayswater Project

Opposes Bayswater Project

Dear Editor;

The following letter was sent by Assemblywoman Audrey Pheffer to Governor George Pataki.

I am writing to you regarding the development of a 44-person SRO studio apartment program which PSCH, Inc. proposes to develop at 29-54 Beach Channel Drive for homeless and drug/alcohol dependent persons.

This development will have a devastating effect on our community, and I am vehemently opposed to this project.

Community Board #14 is the most saturated community within New York City. We are home to countless health and social programs and facilities. As you will see from the enclosed documentation, the revitalization efforts of our community will be severely impacted by this development.

In accordance with Mental Hygiene Law, Section 41.34, and Community Notification Policy, the 75-day comment period ended on September 5, 2001.

During the comment period, the NYS Department of Mental Health received numerous letters in opposition to this program.

Additionally, a meeting was arranged with PSCH at the Borough President's office so that they could hear, first hand, the insurmountable problems that exist with PSCH's proposal.

I urge you to review the enclosed material and render any assistance possible in helping to stop this ill-conceived, ill-timed project.

I would welcome the opportunity to meet and speak with you regarding any questions or concerns you may have regarding this matter.

AURDREY I. PHEFFER

MEMBER OF THE ASSEMBLY
