Reverend MSGR.
James J. McKenna
Pastor Emeritus

Reverend Monsignor James J. McKenna, born in Brooklyn, N.Y., was a 31-year resident of Far Rockaway. He passed away on May 3, 2002.

Coming from Bayside O.L.B.S., Brooklyn, O.L. Angels, St. Thomas Acquinas-Flatlands, and St. Joseph's-Lake Ronkonkoma, McKenna was pastor emeritus at St. Mary Star Of The Sea Church. He helped to rebuild the current church after the original church was destroyed by fire. Co-founder of the Margert Corp, he was the recipient of several awards from the Jewish community for his ecumenical work. He was previously a priest for the R. C. Diocese of Brooklyn.

He was preceded in death by his father Thomas Joseph McKenna; his mother, Elizabeth Agnes McKenna; and brother, Thomas McKenna.

He is survived by his sister, Sr. Mary P. McKenna; his nephew, Tom McKenna; his niece Lisa Romo; and his sister-in-law, Setsuko McKenna.

Interment under the direction of Denis S. O'Connor Inc. was held at Holy Cross Cemetery.

Hazel Mae Allmond
Domestic

Hazel Mae "Gloria" Allmond, born in Clarendon, Jamaica, West Indies, was a longtime resident of Rockaway. She passed away on May 1, 2002.

Hazel had spent most of her life working as a domestic.

She is survived by her sons, Allan, Hugh, Samuel Steer and O'Neil Allmond; her sisters, Iris Bordon and Daphnie Hart; her brother, Phillip Lennon; and a host of other family members.

Disposition under the direction of Jeremiah C. Gaffney's Funeral Home, Inc. was held at Evergreen Cemetery.

Carlos Claudio
BCHS Graduate

Carlos Claudio, who resided in Tallahassee, Florida, was a long time member of the Rockaway community. He passed away on May 5, 2002.

Carlos was a graduate of Beach Channel High School and went on to play college football.

He is survived by his son, Carlos, Jr.; his two sisters, Sapphire and Christine; his grandmother, Rosemary Amonte; and many friends and family from the Rockaway area.

Funeral arrangements were held under the direction of Percy's Funeral Home.

Roosevelt Dixon
Special Service Attendant

Roosevelt Dixon, born in Jacksonville, Florida, resided in the Far Rockaway community for many years. He died on April 26, 2002.

Roosevelt worked as a Special Service Attendant and served in the United States Army.

He is preceded in death by his son, Roosevelt Dixon III.

He is survived by his daughters, Tina Louise, Miya and Nora; his son, Kenny; Tony (an adopted son); and a host of other family members.

Interment under the direction of Jeremiah C. Gaffney's Funeral Home, Inc. was held at Calverton National Cemetery.

Margaret T. Flannagan
Homemaker

Margaret T. Flannagan, born in Brooklyn, N.Y. was a 16 year resident of Breezy Point who passed away on May 5, 2002.

She is survived by her son John Flannagan; 3 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild.

Visitation will be held at Denis S. O'Connor Funeral Home on Friday, May 10 from 2-5 p.m. and 7-10 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, May 11 at 9:45 a.m. at St. Edmunds in Breezy Point.

Interment under the direction of Denis S. O'Connor Inc. will be held at Calvary Cemetery on May 11, 2002.

Pearline May Graham
Home Health Aide

Pearline May Graham, born in St. Mary, Jamaica, West Indies, was a 30 year resident of Rockaway. She died on April 23, 2002.

Pearline worked for many years as a Home Health Aide.

She is survived by her daughters, Claudette, Yasmine and Pauline; her sons, Everton and Marton; her grandmothers, great-grandmothers, and other family members.

Interment under the direction of Jeremiah C. Gaffney's Funeral Home, Inc. was held at Pinelawn Cemetery.

Lillian Helen Hunter
Board of Ed Employee

Lillian Helen Hunter, born in Putnam County, Georgia, had lived in the Rockaway area for many years. She passed away on April 21, 2002.

Lillian was an employee of the New York City Board of Education.

She is survived by her daughter, Mary Jackson; her grandchildren, Dolley, Denise and Michael; and other family members.

Disposition under the direction of Jeremiah C. Gaffney's Funeral Home, Inc. was held at Evergreen Cemetery.

Mary R. Puckhaber
Supervisor

Mary Rodihan Puckhaber, born in Brooklyn, N.Y. was a long time resident of Breezy Point who passed away on May 2, 2002.

Mary worshipped at St Thomas More Church, and she worked as a supervisor of accounting disbursement for Long Island University.

She is preceded in death by her husbands Francis X. Rodihan and William N. Puckhaber.

She is survived by her daughters, Kathleen Daly and Eileen Smith; her son, Robert Rodihan; her stepsons, Francis Puckhaber, Laurence Puckhaber, Robert Puckhaber and William Puckhaber; her stepdaughter, Ruth Smith; 22 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.

Interment under the direction of Denis S. O'Connor Inc. was held at Long Island National Cemetery.

Patrick Joseph Travers
Retired NYPD Officer

Patrick Joseph Travers, a longtime resident of Rockaway Beach, passed away on April 15, 2002 in Cape Coral.

Patrick spent the past ten years in Cape Coral, Florida, with his wife of 8 years, Ellen.

He is survived by 13 of his fifteen children, Patricia, Marianne, Jane Ellen, Patrick, Kathleen, Rosemary, Terrence, Timothy, Eileen, Suzanne, Richard, Matthew and Kenneth; his two brothers, John and James; his two sisters, Maureen and Anne; and a number of grandchildren.

Marvin Williams, Jr.
Laborer

Marvin Williams, Jr. was a lifelong resident of Rockaway who died on April 26, 2002.

Marvin spent most of his life employed as a laborer.

He is survived by his mother, Corine Williams; his sisters, Louella, Ada and Fannie; his aunt, Juanita Moore; his niece, Theresa Gilliam; and other family members.

Interment under the direction of Jeremiah C. Gaffney's Funeral Home, Inc. was held at Forest Park Cemetery.
