Hey Baby This!Dear Editor;
I just read Mr. Toms' latest column, and besides pointing out a rather common attitude problem with young men, it clearly points to the issue of women being harassed.
This kind of "Hey baby, let me talk to you..." nonsense goes on all the time. While most times it is not truly threatening, it can be and one never knows for sure how much at risk they are. Is he high, or drunk, or stupid, or crazy, or all of the above? We are not talking about the "wolf-whistle" from a construction worker, or a passing, admiring glance. Any woman can tell you there is a huge difference between an innocent glance and a leer.
When will we teach our sons, brothers, friends that it is not okay to verbally or physically harass women on the street? It's not cute, or clever, or cool. It's rude and obnoxious and threatening.
While its comforting to know that gentlemen like The G-man still are out there to help defend a woman being harassed, we need to make it unnecessary for the good guys to be put at risk too!
I hope you, The G-man, and anyone else on staff that has a mind to, will take this topic on. Thanks for listening!
