Pataki To Reopen Marine Parkway Bridge

Pataki To Reopen Marine Parkway Bridge

New York State Governor George Pataki will cut the ribbon in a ceremony on Friday, May 10 at 11:15 a.m. officially opening all four of the newly reconstructed lanes of the Marine Parkway-Gil Hodges Memorial Bridge connecting Rockaway with the Brooklyn mainland.

All four lanes of the bridge will be open to motorists following the completion of a three-year, $95 million rehabilitation project.

The ceremony will take place on the Rockaway side of the bridge, alongside the Brooklyn bound approach lanes. Parking will be available in the Riis Park parking lot, adjacent to the ceremony site.

The Marine Parkway Bridge was originally opened to traffic on July 3, 1937. At the time, the bridge’s vertical lift span was the longest in the world.
