Grace Balfe, born in Brooklyn, New York was a 30 year resident of Rockaway Beach. She passed away on April 29, 2002.

Grace worked as a librarian for the Brooklyn Public Library and attended St. Rose of Lima Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband Edward Balfe.

She is survived by her son Edward Balfe; daughter Patricia Tynan; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Interment under the direction of Denis S. O'Connor Inc. was held at St. Charles Cemetery.

Clarence Butler
Entrepreneur

Clarence Butler, born in Aiken, South Carolina, was a long time resident of Rockaway who passed away on April 26, 2002.

Clarence was a United States Army veteran of World War II, and was and was self-employed as an entrepreneur.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Johnnie and Geneva Butler; and his sister, Wilhemia Dessasure.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Vermelle; his daughters, Genita Clemence and Florelle Coleman; and a host of other relatives.

Interment under the direction of Jeremiah C, Gaffney's Funeral Home, Inc. was held at Calverton National Cemetery.

Elton Lushawn Champion
Rockaway Beach Resident

Elton Lushawn Stephens Champion was a resident of the Rockaway Beach community who died on April 19, 2002.

Elton is preceded in death by his father, Telford Champion.

He is survived by his mother, Barbara Stephens; his daughter, Diamond; his sister, Shwantay; his brother, Derrick; and grandmothers, aunts, uncles and other family members.

Interment under the direction of Jeremiah C. Gaffney's Funeral Home, Inc. was held at Frostwood Cemetery.

Wanda R. DeJesus
Housewife

Wanda R. DeJesus, born in Harlem, New York was a resident of the Rockaway community most of her life. She passed away on April 26, 2002.

Wanda was a member of the Tabernacle House of Prayer, in Jamaica, New York, and she spent most of her life as a housewife.

She is survived by her ex-husband, Alejandro; her son, Simion; her daughters, Angelina, Alina and Corrinna; her mother, Carrie Brown; her father, James Brown; her brother, Jeffrey Brown; and other family members and friends.

Interment under the direction of Jeremiah C. Gaffney's Funeral Home, Inc. was held at Amityville Cemetery.

John A. Dibs
Businessman

John A. Dibs, born in Bronx, New York was a 10 year resident of Rockaway who died on April 16, 2002 at the age of 62. He was living in Boynton Beach, Florida at the time of his death.

John served in the United States Air Force, and he was a self-employed businessman. Earlier on, John was an employee of the old Rockaway Playland amusement park.

He is preceded in death by his father, Victor; his mother, Susan; and his brother, Victor Jr.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara; his sons, John Jr., Todd and Justin; his daughter-in-law, Vera; his grandchildren, Olivia and Shelby; his brother, Patrick; and his sisters, Elaine and Susan.

Harold 'Foo' Farrington
Carpenter

Harold Frederick Farrington (affectionately nicknamed "Foo") passed away from complications of a stroke on April 26, 2002 at his home in Boca Raton, Florida. He was 75.

Born and raised in Rockaway, Harold was a United States Navy veteran of World War II. He was the son of Harold F. and Agnes Farrington, and he spent most of his life employed as a carpenter and cabinetmaker.

He is survived by his wife, Gloria (nee Goggin); his daughters, Lillian and Victoria; a son, Harold; three grandchildren, Elizabeth, James and Mary; two siblings, Esther Privett and Edna Farrington; and his cousin John (Trixie) Lafayette Farrington.

Funeral arrangements were handled by the Babione Funeral Home, Inc. in Boca Raton, Florida.

Joan A. McCaffrey
Custody Fee Administrator

Joan A. McCaffrey, born in Manhattan, New York, was a 40 year resident of Breezy Point. She passed away on April 25, 2002.

She recently retired as a custody fee administrator at J.P. Morgan Chase after 35 years of service. She worshipped at St. Thomas More Church.

She was preceded in death by her father Hugh McCaffrey and mother Mary Anne McCaffrey.

She is survived by her executrix; Joan Boudreault; and her close friend Pat Longo.

Interment under the direction of Denis S. O'Connor Inc. was held at Pinelawn Memorial Park.

Margaret A. Mullany
Accounting Supervisor

Margaret A. Mullany, born in Brooklyn, New York, was a 12 year resident of Breezy Point. She passed away on April 27, 2002.

Margaret worked as supervisor in the accounting department for New York Telephone until she retired. She attended St. Thomas More Church.

She is preceded in death by her brothers Michael Mullany and Thomas Mullany.

She is survived by her sisters Mary Hubard and Bridget Clark; her brother Patrick Mullany; and 15 nieces and nephews.

Interment under the direction of Denis S. O'Connor Inc. was held at St. Charles Cemetery.

Josephine M. O'Brien
Loving Wife

Josephine M. O'Brien, born in New York, NY, was a 38 year resident of Rockaway Beach. She passed away on April 26, 2002.

Josephine was a member of the Island Lakes Community, Florida. She enjoyed bowling, crafts, bingo and very active in the community activities.

She was preceded in death by her brother John and sister Mary O'Neill.

She is survived by her husband Bernard (Barney) O'Brien; her sons, Thomas O'Brien, John O'Brien and wife Eileen and James O'Brien and wife Beth; her daughter Mary O'Sullivan and husband Shaun; her brothers, Michael, Patrick and James; her sister Ann O'Connor; her sister-in-law Mary O'Brien; 12 grandchildren; 1 great grandchildren; and a host of other nieces and nephews.

Visitation will take place at Denis S. O'Connor Funeral Home on May 4 and May 5, from 2-5 p.m. and 7-10 p.m.

Funeral Mass will be held at St. Rose of Lima on Monday, May 6, 2002 at 9:45 a.m.

Interment under the direction of Denis S. O'Connor Inc. will be held at Calverton National Cemetery on May 6, 2002.

Barbara O'Malley
Homemaker

Barbara O'Malley, born in Leenane, Co. Galway, Ireland, was a 32 year resident of Rockaway Park. She passed away on April 30, 2002.

Barbara worshipped at St. Camillus Church and spent her life as a homemaker.

She is preceded in death by her husband Michael P. O'Malley; and her sons James and John O'Malley.

She is survived by her daughter Barbara Harkins; her sister Ellie Shipperlee and 1 great-grandchild.

Visitation will take place at Denis S. O'Connor Funeral Home on May 3, from 2-5 p.m. and 7-10 p.m.

Funeral Mass will be held at St. Camillus on Saturday May 4, 2002 at 9:45 a.m.

Interment under the direction of Denis S. O'Connor Inc. will be held at St. Raymond Cemetery on May 4, 2002.
