Memories of Rockaway

Memories of Rockaway

Dear Editor;

I'm a 73 old "Rockawian" whose family moved away from Rockaway in 1948 because most of the men in our family served in the Pacific Fleet. I wished they hadn't. I've lived in California for the last 54 years and still miss Rockaway. I think my parents made a great mistake when they left.

I attended P.S. 114, when Miss Badger was principal, and St. Francis de Sales, when Monsignor J. Jerome Reddy was Pastor.

I lived at 436 Beach 145 Street, and lived the entire experience of World War II as a teenager in Rockaway. The contributions made during W.W.II by Rockawains were nothing short of magnificent.

My dad was Officer Bill Ferguson of the 100th Precinct, which made 9/11 tough for me since I knew lots of people that lived on Beach 131 Street.

Your editorial about sending our Secretary of State on an almost hopeless mission was great!!

I look forward every week for my copy of the WAVE. Once a Rockawian always a Rockawian!! Keep up the good work and thanks for the Email edition.
