Construction on the "peaking facility" at the LIPA generating plant in Bayswater is near completion. Representatives from both LIPA and Florida Power and Light expect the new generator to be up and running by June 9, with total renovations to be completed by June 30. The generator is called a "peaking facility" because it will only operate during the summer months, when the demand for electricity is greatest. A jet turbine engine, like those used in commercial airlines, will help to generate the power needed during peak periods this summer. Jonathan T. Bain, who was recently named Plant Leader for the LIPA generating plant, is very enthusiastic about the project. "I think this generator will make a huge difference in how power will be distributed in the Rockaway area. It will serve as a backup whenever needed," said Bain. Jonathan T.
