On April 30, at Far Rockaway High School, Principal Cheryll C. Jones, Congressman Gregory Meeks and Superintendant John Lee welcomed Rosetta Jones, Director of VISA USA. On the recommendation of Congressman Meeks, Far Rockaway High School was chosen, along with 10 schools in the nation, to receive a VISA USA Award, which consists of five new computers and tutoring for VISA’s Online Money Skills For Life curriculum.

The program teaches students the basics of money management and personal finance. The students also interact with a number of corporate firms, which gives them the chance to prepare for the business world upon graduation.

Principal Jones lauded Visa’s commitment to young people and the benefits of literacy it brings to young and old in the community. Superintendant Lee spoke of the investment in the future that VISA is making for our students to develop their financial and money management skills.

Congressman Meeks stated, "VISA has put its money where its mouth is. Partnerships with corporate America will give us a 21st Century education that students will need in the future." A small reception was held after the ceremony.
