Dorothy Dunne

Congratulations to our publisher, Susan Locke on her first stage appearance in The Little Globe Theatre Production, "A Baker’s Dozen". In this communication age so many of us are called upon to speak in public that it is so important to sharpen up our speaking skills in front of an audience. And, there is no better way than joining a performing arts group. Best thing in the world for you, Susan. So happy you were such a big hit.

Bernie (Bernstein?) from The WAVE became a grandparent along with his wife, Sharon when their daughter, Rebecca and husband Adam Ross presented them with their new grandchild, Elisheva Ross who was born March 26. Belated Congratulations. Family and friends go together this past weekend to celebrate the happy occasion.

The Premium Incentive Show took up most of the space at the Javits Center last week. This is a show filled with ideas and products to thank, please and lure business clients; mostly from Corporations. And, some of the ideas were fabulous. From pre- paid phone cards, credit cards, to travel trips, airline tickets, spa finders, bath and body works, gift certificates and many more. I had the time of my life. Not only because I was once again able to walk since being confined for a week due to a knee injury, but because I found the Flappy Cap (a bright colored baseball cap with stuffed hands sticking out of each side of the top of the cap holding pom poms. Pull the string underneath your chin and the hands clap. Well, there were giggles throughout the Javits Center when I went by. Found a furry little animal called phone pals, a cell phone cover; a fantastic laser light with two lights at each end screwed on to a circular tube where you can print your label. Very useful for boating at night or emergencies in your car. or in your home, especially during electric storms.

The next day was a Meeting Planners Trade Show at Madison Square Garden where I mingled with Hoteliers to find the best place for group meetings. (This was not the best thing for my knee, but, thank God, I am still able to walk on it. In fact, I was even able to make it to Breezy.

At Kennedy’s, I learned that Joe Kilbride lost a few pounds. After a bout with his health he had to give up salt. Did that mean no beer for Joe? Not at all because Kennedy’s now has salt free beer, so all you salt free diet people come to Kennedy’s, drink your beer and still maintain your health. And, don’t forget, this Sunday the big party for Paul, " Mr. Glib" Kavanaugh who is retiring from the "bar" at Kennedy’s. We have to give him a fond farewell! The ritual this Saturday, Kentucky Derby Day is when the members of the BPSC get together at Kennedy’s to watch the race and prepare for the coming season at the BPSC. As I was leaving Kennedy’s I ran into Catherine Stilletti who is marrying Nelson Calle. Mom, Anne Stilletti and sister, Laura Stilletti threw a Kennedy wedding shower brunch for Catherine who will marry July 7. Congratulations to the bride and groom and live happily for as long as you can.

Got a snail mail from Pink Palace Pals, Peter and Helene Danzilo who are still in Las Vegas and were happy to see their summer residents Duplicate Bridge friends, Dorothy and Bob Chandler from Roxbury. The Chandler’s left Florida to see their two grandsons play in a very prestigious baseball tournament for their California High School Teams. Bob hosted a dinner party at Le Cirque in the Bellagio Hotel/Casino for family and friends and included their dear friends, Helene and Peter who are anxious to return to Breezy Point. and startup their new Duplicate Bridge game at St. Edmund’s on June 13.

That means Helene will be away for her birthday, which happens to fall on Mother’s Day this year. Hope both your Mother’s Day and Birthday turn out to be a fun day and a healthy day for you, Helene. Congratultions and many, many more.

Just got home from a reception at Le Cirque in Manhattan where I met James Villas at the launching of his new book, "Between Bites", Memoirs of a Hungry Hedonist, A Life in Food. James Villas is the former Town and Country food and wine editor. He provides an exclusive peek at the vibrant gastronomic evolution of food in America in the last forty years. In between bites of his story Villas shares a selection of favorite recipes as well as a captivating collection of photos, journal notes and other memorabilia. A taste bud tantalizer with the message that self indulgence is good for you. Buy it at your nearest book store…... wherever that is. It is really sad that the area from Far Rockaway to the East , Breezy Point, is without a movie theatre and/or a book store.
