Addabbo Softball Welcomes Community Assistance

By Ronald Escobar

By Ronald Escobar

The Joseph P. Addabbo Family Health Center is welcoming the spring by organizing a new softball league. The sport of softball has been absent for many years in the Far Rockaway community. Thanks goes to the assistance and support of many people, which includes special thanks to Mr. Greg Carter, President of the Rockaway Youth Council and Mr. Doug Schonfeld of the Long Beach Surgical Company, for making the league possible.

Since it is our purpose to provide health and fitness to the community, the best place to start is within our own family. We hope to bring enjoyment and exercise to the public of Far Rockaway. In developing the league, we are eager to invite other businesses to join in on this venture. It’s our goal to have area residents as well as businesses to become involved. Therefore, we need the assistance from the neighborhood as a whole.

Anyone interested in joining the league or scheduling a game with us, please contact either Sandra Fogg at 718-945-7150 or Ronald Escobar at 718-868-8230. The Joseph P. Addabbo Family Health Center anticipates the community taking part in our new softball league.

Addabo Stompers Play First Game

The Joseph P. Addabbo Stompers played their first game on Wednesday evening, April 17. The team they were supposed to play couldn’t make it, so they played a group of teenagers that called themselves the Rockaway Eagles. The Eagles fell short in the last inning, but not due to their size. They played a great game and some of them showed real talent, we hope to see a few of them in the majors one day. So if anyone is interested in joining the league or playing a game, please contact David Prarrd at 718-945-7150 or Ronald Escobar at 718-868-8230.
