Although I did not attend the meeting at which Lew Simon was accused of "arguing" for fewer Rockaway cops (Wave, April 13th), I can say that the quotes attributed to him in your paper are at odds with his actions. As the president of the 100th Precinct Community Council, I have found Lew to be dedicated and committed to the Council's goals and the overall public safety of every Rockaway resident.
Lew has attended more Council meetings than most people I know. He has always advocated for more police officers to protect Rockaway's streets, especially during the summer season. He always makes himself available to the Council for assistance, and in the past has served the Council as chairman of National Night Out Against Crime.
I have quickly discovered in my role as president that there are many people who offer help, but few who actually come through. I am grateful that Lew Simon has been someone that the Council and the Rockaway community can count on.
