Body of Missing Woman Found in Jamaica Bay

The body of a 35-year-old woman who vanished more than a month ago, leaving her shoes and a note nearby the Joseph P. Addabbo Bridge, was discovered last week in the waters of Jamaica Bay, approximately a quarter-mile from where she was last seen.

Sattie Narain’s family had reported her disappearance on March 21. Police searched the area around the bridge for more than a day before they game up the search.

At the time, relatives said that Narain was despondent about the death of her son to cancer. The area in which she disappeared is often used for religious rites associated with the Hindu religion, according to police in the 106 Precinct. Relatives had held out hope that she was still alive until her body was found early on Wednesday, April 18.

The medical examiner and police are investigating the cause of her death.
