The nitty-gritty work of forming divisions, scheduling referees and planning sponsor party nights is all underway. As always, there will be several different divisions this summer with varying levels of skill (and varying levels of fun).

The final league meeting will be held on Wednesday, April 17th at 8:00 p.m. at the Kerry Hills Pub in Rockaway. Captains are required to bring the balance of their fees to finalize their spot in the league. Also, team roster sheets and uniform orders are due. This allows just enough time for the shirts to be delivered for opening day.

Wednesday, April 22, will be our first night of volleyball at the beach. It will be a practice night but everyone is invited to play a grudge match with one of their division rivals. One of our sponsors will host a party after the games and uniforms and schedules will be given out at that time. Also at the bar, championship sweatshirts will be awarded to members of the 2001’s three winning teams: Coppersmiths, Kerry Hills and the Beach Club. Can you think of a better way to spend a Wednesday night in Rockaway?

Wednesday, April 29, will be opening day and play will continue every Wednesday until August 10. On Saturday, August 10, the league championships will be played – keep your schedules clear.

We can still use a few referees, even ones that might prefer working a limited rather than a full schedule. Experienced refs are welcome as well as novice refs with a strong playing background (high school and college). Come by if you’d like to work on the beach and make a few bucks at the same time.

There remains an opening for a third sports writer on the staff. The consensus is that a woman’s point of view needs to be heard and we would love to accommodate that request even though history tells us that the greatest writers of all time are men.

Remember that you can read all about the weekly action in the Wave when it comes out on Fridays or you can always visit the RBVL website at http://rbvl.tripod.com for updates and photos.
