The Grunt and Jazzy Joe: 'Show Us The Money!'
This week, City Councilman James Sanders, Jr., a former member of the United States Marine Corps, announced that the $300,000 funding that was yanked by the City for a ferry service in Rockaway has been placed back into the City Council budget. Working with fellow councilman Joseph "Jazzy" Addabbo, Jr., the two are aiming to make sure that Rockaway is not left out of the ferry loop any longer. Mayor Bloomberg must approve the budget before the monies can be released, and although the Mayor may reject the $300,000 funding proposal, the City Council has the power to override his decision. "Joe and I are doing what the people elected us to do. We are working for them, and we are going to fight hard to bring home the bacon one way or another," said Sanders. Sanders also mentioned that a budget for education, which has been dubbed "Education First", would not take a single penny from the education system, including higher education. The no-nonsense attitude that Sanders and Addabbo convey can have a major impact on the Rockaway community. We applaud them for taking such a hard-line stance. We also commend them for keeping us informed of what is happening in the City Council on consistent basis, which is something their predecessors failed to do.
