Youth Town Hall Meeting Set For April 13

Youth Town Hall Meeting Set For April 13

Congressman Gregory W. Meeks will convene an Urban Campfire Town Hall Meeting for Young Adults on Saturday, April 13, 2002 at York College. Meeks (D-NY), media mogul Russell Simmons, technology notable Darien Dash, and others will offer this town hall meeting, entitled "Creating A New America," to begin a dialogue with young adults in the Sixth Congressional District to discuss issues that affect their lives post September 11.

Urban Campfire is a cross between Oprah and MTV that brings together a diverse cross section of young adults with celebrities and cultural icons. To date Urban Campfire has produced events in Los Angeles, Oakland and Washington D.C.

It hoped that this Urban Campfire Meeting called "Creating A New America" will inspire young people to get involved in serving their community and country. Moreover, it will commence the healing process by communicating personal fears, hopes and dreams in the aftermath of a national tragedy.

Since September 11, 2001, life has been forever changed in our nation. As New York residents continue to battle the aftermath of September 11, young people have been greatly affected. The youth also must manage issues that affect their parents, including: stress, security, loss of loved ones, unemployment, and a sense of uncertainty.

The meeting will run from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Performing Arts Center of York College at 94-45 Guy R. Brewer Blvd., Jamaica, N.Y.
