PHC Honors ‘Exceptional Nurses’

PHC Honors 'Exceptional Nurses'

Peninsula Hospital Center will be holding its Annual Spring Luncheon on Wednesday, May 15, 2002 at Russo's on the Bay in Howard Beach, honoring two "Nurses of Distinction," Lilia Potenciano, RN, of the 2 North patient care unit in the Hospital Center, and Donna Kearns, RN, of 2 Bay in Peninsula Center for Extended Care and Rehabilitation (PCECR).
"We are proud to honor our two nurses of distinction, as well as our
entire nursing staff," commented Geralyn Randazzo, RN, Vice President of Nursing Services at Peninsula Hospital Center.  "They truly demonstrate our mission to provide the highest level of care."

The Nurse of Distinction Award is given to an extraordinary professional who clearly exhibits the three "Cs:" competence, judged by on-job-expertise; commitment, measured in dedication to self, patients, peers and the profession of nursing; and connection, shown in the effective communication of the excellence of nursing to others.

Donna Kearns has been at PCECR since 1983.  She graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the College of Mount Saint Vincent in 1983.  Prior to joining the PCECR nursing staff, she was a staff nurse at Lenox Hill Hospital.  Ms. Kearns is currently pursuing a Masters Degree in Nursing at William Paterson University with a sub-specialty in Advanced Practice Nursing.  She resides in Neponsit, New York, with her husband and five children.
Lilia Potenciano has been a member of the PHC nursing staff since 1971.
She received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing from the University of Santo Thomas in 1971, after which she became a staff nurse at Infant Jesus Hospital in Manila, Philippines.  Ms. Potenciano and her husband reside in Bayswater. They have one daughter, who attends Fordham University.

The proceeds from the Annual Spring Luncheon, including ticket sales, raffles and donations, will all be used for renovating and modernizing patient areas throughout Peninsula Hospital Center and the Center for Extended Care and Rehabilitation.

Several prizes have been donated for the Spring Luncheon Raffle,
including a theater/dinner package (courtesy of Siemens), a Visor handheld computer by Handspring (courtesy of Alan Camhi, Condor Pest Control), a CD player (courtesy of Novartis Nutrition), a deluxe air conditioner (courtesy of Caucig Utilities, Inc.), a color television (courtesy of McKesson Empowering Healthcare), and much more.  Winners will be announced at the luncheon.
