BCHS/MS 180 Host Mock Trial

BCHS/MS 180 Host Mock Trial

On Saturday April 13, students in the Law and Forensics Magnet Program of Middle School 180 in Community School District 27 Queens, along with students from Beach Channel High School, will participate in a mock trial demonstration as part of the culminating activities for their program.

Volunteers from the local legal and law enforcement systems will conduct the trial. Students will act as jurors and spectators and will gain a better understanding of courtroom strategies and techniques and an increased awareness of job opportunities in the justice system.

Participants include: Hon. Charles H. Thomas, Justice of the Supreme Court of the State of New York, Queens; Richard J. O’Keefe, Esq., O’Keefe and Lindgren, LLP. – White Plains, New York; Harold Lee Schwab, Esq., Lester Schwab Katz & Dwyer, LLP – New York City; Pepe Smith, Police Officer, 100th Precinct; Garland Battle, Court Officer – Supreme Court, Queens County; Angela Spinelli, Court Reporter – Supreme Court, Queens County; Dr. James H. Somerset, Professor of Engineering, Syracuse University; La Tasha Murria, Secretary - Lester Schwab Katz & Dwyer, LLP – New York City; and Juan Gonzalez, Document Clerk - Lester Schwab Katz & Dwyer, LLP – New York City.

The event will be hosted by Beach Channel High, and will take place in the school’s courtroom styled legal learning center from 9:00 A.M – 4:00 P.M.
