Surf In The Winter

Surf In The Winter

I had just come out of the water on B.90 Street. (Rockaway's most popular surf spot), and was having a conversation with a friend of mine about the surf, and he was debating going out. A patrol car rolls up to us on the boardwalk informing us that they are going to start giving out $50 tickets for surfing, due to there being no lifeguards on duty, and that they had actually already given out about 10 tickets earlier in the week. This is ridiculous, winter surfing in Rockaway has gone on for many years, people know how to handle themselves out in the ocean, we keep an eye on each other, and there has NEVER been a fatality surfing EVER in the winter time. The basic reason we were given for this is to get revenues up. The officer was quite polite, and almost embarrassed to tell us that this is the new policy.

I really hope someone at the WAVE can look into this, this is nonsense.
