G-Man Is The Man

G-Man Is The Man

I have lived in the Rockaways over 25 years, and often had the opportunity of meeting and speaking with the former editor and owner of The Wave, Leon Locke, in regards to the misrepresentation of certain communities in the paper’s weekly reporting. He felt likewise and stated his interest in anyone from the concerned communities willing to write or submit newsworthy articles.

Well it is a pleasure to know that the local news media has found the talent in Gary (G- Man) Toms. His weekly column is refreshing, colorful, and in no doubt probably attributes to the volume weekly sales. And although at times his column manifests on the borderline of provocative and controversial, it’s interesting, vibrant and stimulating. The talent of this young writer as I see it, is not intended to malign, but nurture sleeping minds in our community. It does not show malice or a disregard for the sensitive matters that affect our community. However, quite the opposite I can assure most readers. As a matter of fact his talent should readily be compared to the very talented, articulate and often controversial and outspoken daily columnist, Pete Hamill.

The magnitude of these men is rare and often not found in local weeklies. We should be pleased to have one. As a community insider and activist, I am exceptionally pleased with his talent as the Associate Editor. And for that matter, I look forward to my weekend with the (G-Man) column, diligently working to push sleeping minds. Because it is through the mark of these types of talents will communities as ours reap any real rewarding success then and only, to exceed. THINK ABOUT IT…
