BOE Teaching for Tests

BOE Teaching for Tests

In your "From the Editor’s Desk" column, you make the statement that "Perhaps parents should start to take a look at scores and the price they are paying for parochial school education, not only in monetary terms, but in educational terms as well."

You, as a former educator with the BOE, with all of your years of knowledge of BOE practices, and prepping procedures for these tests might also examine and take into account how this "preparing for test" factors into the mix.

I am sure that over the years, especially the last few years, you have been privy to BOE teachers’ complaints of "teaching for the test." Most certainly the public school student population has been well prepared for these tests. Maybe our parochial schools emphasized a more well-rounded and certainly less stressful education leaving out all of the "test preparation."

If you spend six months in the batting cage, you may win the first game, but that doesn’t mean that you are the better team.
