Tire Theft A Problem With Chrysler, Acura

Tire Theft A Problem With Chrysler, Acura

The crime prevention officers for both the 100 Precinct in Rockaway Beach and the 101 Precinct in Far Rockaway are warning their respective community that there is a pattern of theft of tires and rims from parked vehicles, particularly from newer Chryslers and Acuras.

"This is a pattern crime throughout the southern part of Queens," says Police Officer Brian McCabe of the 100 Precinct. "While there have been only four incidents in Rockaway, if you own one of those vehicles, you may have to purchase wheel locks for your car."

"Besides having an alarm, inexpensive wheel locks might prevent this type of crime," adds Police Officer Mike Vallentino of the 101 Precinct. "They can be purchased at any auto supply store."

Both police officers urge residents to call their respective crime prevention officer to find out about various auto programs. All of the programs they offer are free and many of them lead to a discount on a driver’s comprehensive automobile insurance.

Those interested in finding more information on those programs should call PO McCabe at the 100 Precinct (318-4236) or PO Vallentino at the 101 Precinct (868-3426).
