Two Better Than One

Two Better Than One

Dear Editor,

May I add another word of approval to your editorial (3/16) in praise of Rockaway's two Council members?

An important legislative initiative (now known as Intro 205A)  that will protect children from the adverse health effects of lead poisoning will be introduced into the City Council on March 25.  Thirty-two of the 51 members of of the Council have signed on as co-sponsors, and I am pleased to note that both James Sanders and Joseph Addabbo are among them.  Both these legislators know that elevated body burdens of lead in children is a health issue, and that it more seriously affects parts of Queens, including the Rockaways, than it does other areas of New York City.

The pubic health community in this City are hopeful that the legislation will be assigned to the Health Committee of the Council  (since it is primarily a public health issue),  and that it will be passed early in this Council session.

EVELYN MAUSS, SC.D.
