Rockaway Schools Get Soundproofing
In a move that "will lead to quieter schools and a better learning environment," a number of schools in Rockaway will soon get new soundproofing courtesy of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.
The three Rockaway schools getting the new soundproofing material are Intermediate School 180 in Rockaway Beach, Intermediate School 198 and Beach Channel High School, both in Rockaway Beach.
The total allocation by the Port Authority to the three schools is $7.3 million dollars.
"A quiet classroom is essential for quality education," says New York State Governor George Pataki. "I applaud the Port Authority Commissioners for the agency’s commitment to school soundproofing, an effective way to enhance learning in our New York schools. The Port Authority is showing that is it determined to be a good neighbor to the people who live, work and learn near the agency’s airports."
The soundproofing effort is a joint program of the Port Authority and the Federal Aviation Agency (FAA).
