Pheffer Announces Scholarship Availability

Assemblywoman Audrey I. Pheffer has announced the availability of a scholarship for individuals entering graduate study for the first time in the fall of 2002. Four scholarships of $2,500 each will be awarded to persons pursuing an advanced degree in political science, public administration, public policy or a related field.

Sprint Corporation, in coordination with the Women's Network of the National Conference of State Legislatures, will provide the scholarship funds.

The scholarships will be based on a variety of factors, including scholastic achievements, written statements by the applicant, community/school involvements and letters of recommendation.

Applications and supporting documentation are due no later than June 14, 2002, and are available through Sprint's office at 1-800-796-3464 by E-mail request to group.stategovernmentaffairs@mail.sprint.com. Requests for applications by e-mail or the information line must be made by June 10, 2002.

"The Sprint and NCSL Women's Network graduate scholarship presents an outstanding financial leg up for someone beginning the long haul of graduate study," said Assemblywoman Pheffer.

"The $2,500 scholarships will help make graduate study and a career in public service a reality for four deserving students."

"Sprint is to be commended for its sponsorship of this effort. Sprint is taking action to enhance the effectiveness and quality of state government, and I congratulate them for this initiative," concluded Pheffer.

Assemblywoman Pheffer is a member of the National Conference of State Legislature's Women's Network, which is coordinating the scholarship award with Sprint.
