Addabbo: Metrocard Van A Success

City Council Member Joseph P. Addabbo, Jr. said the MTA-New York City MetroCard Program Van visit to the Rockaway peninsula on Monday, March 4th to assist residents in applying for and using reduced fare and full fare MetroCards was a success.

Addabbo stated that the low temperature and brisk winds did not deter the 30 Rockaway residents who came to the Van, which was parked in front of his Rockaway Park office at 92-03 Rockaway Beach Boulevard.

The Council Member said that when he learned that the MTA had not scheduled the MetroVan to be in his district he requested that the MTA make the Van available to his constituents, many of who are senior citizens. "The Van makes it more convenient for our senior citizens, so that they don’t have to walk up and down stairs," said Addabbo.

One senior at the MetroVan told Councilman Addabbo that having the Van in the community was a very good idea. She thanked Addabbo for making it easier for her and other neighborhood residents to purchase MetroCards.

Addabbo said the MTA has offered him the services of the MetroVan more frequently in his district at the Councilman’s request.

The MetroCard Vans are express-service mobile units where customers can add value to any MetroCards and purchase MetroCards. MTA staff aboard the Van are available to assist senior citizens, age 65 and over, and individuals with qualifying disabilities in obtaining their reduced-fare MetroCards and guiding them through the application process. In addition the staff are also able to answer any MetroCard related questions.
