Weiner Sets Congressman For A Day Contest

Congressman Anthony D. Weiner has announced a "Congressman For A Day" contest open to 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students at public, parochial, and yeshiva schools who reside within the 9th Congressional District.

The 9th District includes the neighborhoods of: Park Slope, Midwood, Sheepshead Bay, Manhattan Beach, Marine Park, Gerritsen Beach, Mill Basin, Breezy Point, Belle Harbor, Rockaway Park, Broad Channel, Howard Beach, Ozone Park, Woodhaven, Middle Village, Elmhurst, Glendale, Rego Park, Forest Hills, Kew Gardens, and Corona.

The contest is designed to help spark an interest in government.  The contestants are required to submit an essay of less than 250 words outlining what they would do if they served in the House of Representatives as "Congressman For A Day".

The deadline for the contest is March 31st. Contest winners will join Rep. Weiner for a daylong tour throughout the 9th Congressional District.

"It is important that children feel part of a higher level of community, "said Weiner. "This is a great way to get children involved in government."

Students are encouraged to ask their principal and or teacher about the contest, or to contact Congressman Weiner's district office (718-332-9001) with any questions or details.
