The People's Laundry, a local poetry group which has been in existence approximately 1 ½ years, and the Rockaway Artists Alliance will present Poetry Night on Thursday, March 14 from 8 – 10 p.m. at Patrick's Caribbean International Cuisine restaurant at 112-16 Rockaway Beach Boulevard. The night will feature members of the group reading their work and an open mic at which anyone is welcome to read his/her poetry. All types of poetry are welcome. Irma Seabury is the leader of The People's Laundry, which was formerly headquartered in The Wave Building. She states that all are invited to attend – you don't have to be a poet. As long as you enjoy good poetry, that is enough. Patrick's is a beautiful, warm setting that sports wood paneling and two fireplaces. There is a $6 cover charge for those attending Poetry Night that includes a glass of wine or beer or juice or cup of coffee. A full menu is available for anyone wishing to order from it separately. For any further information, please contact the Rockaway Artists Alliance.

2002. What a concept! Palindrome. What a concept! Know what a palindrome is? Here's a hint. 2002 is a palindrome. So is "yo soy." Got it? Well you will soon. Intrigued? Stay tuned to this column. It all has to do with the upcoming RAA exhibition.

Speaking of upcoming exhibitions, PASSION RED was once an upcoming RAA member exhibit. It is now an exhibition in progress. In fact, this is the final weekend you can catch it at sTudio 6 Gallery, Fort Tilden, GNRA. PASSION RED, in which artists express their passion about…well…passion and…well…red. You'll love it. Come. Gallery hours are Saturday, 12-5 p.m., Sunday, 1-4 p.m. and by appointment.

The art of RAA member Callie Danae Hirsch will be on display at the prestigious Salmagundi Club March 18-March 22 in New York University's AMC Annual Art Show. The reception will be held March 19, 5-9 p.m. The Salmagundi Club is located at 47 Fifth Avenue in Manhattan. Check out Hirsch's website at www.CallieArt.com.

The next RAA general meeting is Monday, March 11 at 7:30 p.m. in building T-149, Fort Tilden, GNRA. Postponed from an earlier date, guest speaker will be artist Pat Seddio, who will discuss her work and the influences upon it. Seddio began painting over 25 years ago by taking full-time classes in art. Her mother, she says, was a great storyteller. She, herself, is a writer and storyteller and this influences her artwork. The story line in her head is transferred to the canvas. Seddio's colors are very vibrant and striking. She combines use of oils both thinly watered down and straight from the tube. Her sense of freedom and profound spiritual beliefs are evident in her work.

Artistic and supportive interchange and camaraderie are the main attractions of RAA for Seddio. She further states, "I would love to tell everyone that each and every single one of us has an inner quality, an inner passion, an inner gift that most definitely should be used. People say they have no talents. I think every single one of us has talents. They just don't know what it is. Some don't know they have it. It's there. You have to seek it out."

Come to the next Rockaway Artists Alliance meeting. There you can seek out your talent, your passion and your inner quality. Hope to see you.
