Lady Seahorses Continue Great Season

The Far Rockaway High School Lady Seahorses track team had their best showing ever at the PSAL City Championships held at the armory. They finished sixth overall in the entire city.

Jeavon Benjamin took second in the 600M run in 132.50. The run was one of the top five running times in the nation this year.

Shellean Fyffe took fifth in the 300M dash in 40.49. Taishi Hyatt took fifth in the 1599M run in 502.90. Tamara Ricketts tied for second in the high jump of 5–0. The 4X200M relay team of Shellean Fyffe, Jeavon Benjamin, Tamara Ricketts and Doreen Russell took third in 144.29. The 4X400 relay team of Jeavon Benjamin, Shellean Fyffe, Taishi Hyatt and Doreen Russell took fourth in 359.50.

The Scholastic championships will be held at the Armory and the New York State Championships to be held in Syracuse at the Carrier Dome. Both meets are on the weekend of March 8-10. The girls must choose one, as they cannot do both. The team qualified for the 4X200 and 4X400 Relays, Jeavon Benjamin in the 600M run, Shellean Fyffe in the 300M Dash and Taishi Hyatt in the 1500M run.

The following week was the annual Mayor’s Trophy meet. Here was a competition of New York’s best. All schools from New York City Public, Private, Prep and Catholic schools attended also with schools from Nassau and Suffolk County in Long Island.

The Lady Seahorses did not disappoint. The team strutted their stuff by finishing second overall. Taishi Hyatt led the way with a first place finish in the 1500M run in 456.00. Hannah Omolade took second in the high jump at 5-0. Shellean Fyffe took fifth in the 300M Dash in 40.94. Jeavon Benjamin took third in the 600M run in 133.23.

The 4X400M relay team of Jeavon Benjamin, Shellean Fyffe, Taishi Hyatt and Doreen Russell capped off the day. They took third and smashed their school record running a 356.10.
