Joan Butler (nee O'Connell), a long time resident of the Rockaway community, passed away on February 24, 2002.
She was preceded in death by her husband William Butler, a former NYPD member.
Joan is survived by her sons and daughters Billy, retired Sergeant NYPD; Kevin, Sergeant NYPD; Timmy, FDNY; Joanne, Detective NYPD; Jackie Smarsch, Lieutenant NYPD; her best friend Patty; mother in law of Jeannie, Peggy, Carolyn and Arthur; her brother Edward; grandmother of 8 children.

Thomas F. Conaboy
Thomas F. Conaboy, born in Brooklyn, was a 26-year resident of Rockaway Park. He passed away on February 25, 2002.
Thomas was a lieutenant in the FDNY and retired in 1991 from Engine 205. He was a veteran of World War II with the Army. He attended St. Francis DeSales Church.
Thomas was preceded in death by his two brothers John G. Conaboy and Michael O' Toole.
He is survived by his wife Elizabeth (Nee Trapane) Conaboy; his son Thomas J. Conaboy and wife Guinevere; his sisters Carolyn Conaboy, Alice Hogan, Mary Ann Mills; his brother James Conaboy; and grandchild Thomas Michael Conaboy;
Interment under the direction of Denis S. O'Connor, Inc. was held at St. Charles Cemetery.
Estelle Lasser Fontana
Estelle Lasser Fontana was a lifelong resident of Rockaway. She passes away on February 24, 2002 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
Estelle was employed at Peninsula Hospital for over 20 years before retiring to Florida in 1998.
She was preceded in death by her mother Jean Sornik and brother Ronald Henry Lasser.
She is survived by her husband of Anthony; her children George Fontan, Nancy Greenfield, Mark Fontana and Anthony Fontana; her grandchildren, George Fontana Jr., Amy and Jordan Greenfield, Katelyn Sornik, Sean and Daniel Fontana, and Rosa and Isabella Fontana; her siblings Lou Lasser, Mary Madden, Phyllis Adamo, Jean M. Redmond and Grace El-Ayouty.

Theresa Kasser-Herlihy, was a long time resident of the Rockaway community, passed away on February 24, 2002.
She was a member of the Local 3 International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers.
She is survived by her husband Billy; her children, Steven and Dana; her parents Jean Nickell and Fred; her brothers and sisters Al, Linda, colin, Donna, Ryan and Tina; aunt of Alan, Alana, Aubrey, Cali, Justin, Sean and Serenity.
Interment was under the direction of Denis S. O'Connor, Inc.
Earnest Watson Legare
Earnest Watson Legare, born in John's Island, South Carolina, was a Rockaway resident for 20 years. He passed away on February 21, 2002 at the age of 86.
He is survived by his daughters, Nancy Simmons and Stephanie Legare and a host of other relatives and friends.
Services will be held on March 1, 2002 at the First Baptist Church in Lawrence, N.Y.
Interment under the direction of Jeremiah C. Gaffney's Funeral Home, Inc. will be held at Rockville Cemetery on March 1, 2002.
Bridget McSherry (nee Christy), born in Newtonforbes, County Longford, Ireland, was a resident of the Rockaway community. She passed away on February 21, 2002.

She is survived by her daughters Patricia Hinckley and Maureen Cummins; her son Terence McSherry; her grandchildren Dennis Cummins, Colleen Breslin, Frank Cummins and Meghan Long, Slobhan, Shristopher, Jonathan and Timothy Hinckley, Daniel and Kahla McSherry; great grandmother of 10.
Interment under the direction of Denis S. O'Connor, Inc. will be held at Long Island National Cemetery on March 4, 2002.
Arcadia Ocasio was a long time resident of the Rockaway community. Arcadia passed away on February 26, 2002 at the age of 87.
Arcadia is survived by her son, Adalberto Orillane.
Interment under the direction of Lawrence Funeral Chapel will be held at Maple Grove Cemetery.
Murray Richmond, born in St. Matthews, North Carolina, was a resident of the Rockaway community for over 30 years. He passed away on February 19, 2002.
Murray worked as a construction worker and attended Calvary Baptist Church.
He is survived by his daughter Jaquelyn; son Murray Jr.; brother WJ Richardson; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Interment under the direction of Jeremiah C. Gaffney's Funeral Home, Inc. was held at Rockville Cemetery.
Virginia P. Slattery
Virginia P. Slattery, a 21-year resident of Rockaway Park, passed away on February 21, 2002.
She worked as a restaurant waitress and attended St. Rose of Lima Church.
She is preceded in death by her husband John.
She is survived by her daughters Debra A. Doyle and Eileen Santangezo; her son John Slattery; her sisters Eileen Buckley and Katherine Day; and her 5 grandchildren.
