Spring Training Anticipation For the Blacksox

By Rockhead

By Rockhead

Well, it is the middle of February.  Baseball's spring training starts this week, which can only mean one thing. The start of Jamaica Bay Softball is right around the corner.  After a long off season, and a few free agent acquisitions, the Blacksox are looking to move ahead this season, and make some noise during the summer.

Hopefully, the noises will not be of someone screaming in pain, doing the worm in the outfield and of the numerous fat guys on the team, bouncing off of the ground or each other. It will be a rough road, considering two of the starters are coming off of off-season shoulder surgery. Captain Kinzie, who is getting up there in age, does not have many days left in the sun, so it is a now or never attitude for the Blacksox this season.

They will be without their fastest player from last year, as Scooby tore his ACL and will be sidelined all season long. Now "Old Mike and Lee" have someone to hang out with on the bench. (Make sure to hide the beers, so we can drink after the game.)

After his spectacular play in the playoffs, JK will make it hard on the Captain on who plays the 4th outfield position. Hopefully, Big Dan-O can repeat what he did last season, when he tore the cover off of the ball all season long. "Young Mike" has not slowed down, and always provides a little spark when the Blacksox need one. Finally, we cannot forget our loyal fans, that without their consent, we would be at home, doing some housework, or taking care of the kids.

One wonders if Lee will ever find the rest of his shorts.  Remember ladies, he "loves" to be hugged. Will "Old Mike" tie his shirt again? Will Dennis ever beat Ed in basketball?  (Ed, please leave the jersey at home) Will "Young Mike" get the 125 beers into 40 beers? Will anyone beat Stephanie and Rock in darts? When will the crazy pigeon show up? Will the Captain have to drag any dead meat?  Will Dennis need a pinch runner?

Who will be the first one to "show the stance?" Will Jorge field a ground ball cleanly? Will Rock regain his hair?  (Probably Not) Will the Captain get thrown out at first base on a base hit? Does anyone really know who "Boo" is? Will Rock pretend to get hurt, when he makes a mistake in the field?

All of these questions will be answered during the season. Keep an eye out for the second edition of the Blacksox Bulletin.
