Jessie Alexander
Construction Worker

Jessie Alexander, born in Valdossa, Georgia, was a 22 year resident of the Rockaway community. He passed away on February 7, 2002 at the age of 70.

Jessie worked as a construction worker for most of his life.

He is survived by his wife, Maebelle Alexander; his daughter, Wanford and a host of other family members and friends.

Interment under the direction of Jeremiah C. Gaffney's Funeral Home, Inc. will be held at Forest Park Cemetery on February 15, 2002.

John Arthur Bethea
Pastor

John Arthur Bethea, born in Brooklyn, NY, was an 18 year resident of the Rockaway community. He passed away on February 8, 2002 at the age of 62.

John was a pastor at the First Church of God. John served as a member of the Air Force.

He is survived by his wife Norma Gean and a host of other family members and friends.

Interment under the direction of Jeremiah C. Gaffney's Funeral Home, Inc. will be held at Amityville Cemetery on February 15, 2002.

Gloria Cahill
Homemaker

Gloria Cahill, born in Manhattan, was a 42 year resident of Rockaway Park. She died on February 9, 2002.

She was preceded in death by her husband Frank.

She is survived by her sons Ronald, Robert; her daughter Irene; her sister Harriette Cashin; her granddaughters Melissa, Amber, Chloessa; her 3 grandchildren;

Interment under the direction of Denis S. O'Connor, Inc. was at Calvary Cemetery.

Hattie Duref
Entrepreneur

Hattie Duref, born in Marion, South Carolina, was a resident of the Rockaway community. She died at the age of 93.

Hattie founded a personal shirt business in South Carolina.

She is preceded in death by her husband Edmond Duref.

She is survived by 4 children; 12 grandchildren; 30 great grandchildren; 11-great-great grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.

Josephine Falzon
Homemaker

Josephine Falzon, born in Malta, was a 37 year resident of Rockaway Beach. She died on February 12, 2002.

She was preceded in death by her husband Emanuel.

She is survived by her sons Joseph, Anthony, Charles and Jonn; her daughters Doris and Anna; her brother Salvatore; her 10 grandchildren; her 7 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held at Denis S. O'Connor Funeral Home on February 15, from 2-5 and 7-10 p.m.

Interment under the direction of Denis S. O'Connor, Inc. will be held at St. Johns Cemetery on February 16, 2002.

Jerry Goodwin
Janitor

Jerry Goodwin, born in Camden, South Carolina, was a 30 year resident of the Rockaway community. He passed away on February 6, 2002 at the age of 91.

Jerry worked a janitor for most of his life.

He is survived by his son Kenneth Goodwin and a host of other relatives and friends.

Interment under the direction of Jeremiah C. Gaffney's Funeral Home, Inc. was held at Pinelawn Cemetery.

Julius Grossman
Doctor

Julius Grossman, born in Manhattam, was a long time resident of Rockaway Beach. He passed away on February 10, 2002 at the age of 90.

Julius practiced as a doctor in podiatry medicine and attended the New York School of Podiatry. He practiced podiatry in the Rockaway community for over 50 years and was still practicing until his death. Julius was an original member of the Rockaway fishing club.

He is preceded in death by Belle Grossman, mother of Marilyn and Steven.

He is survived by his second wife, Annette; daughter, Marilyn Grossman; son, Steven Grossman; daughter-in-law, Janice Grossman; his two grandchildren, Lindsay and Emily Grossman.

Interment under the direction of Denis S. O'Connor, Inc. was held at Mt. Lebanon Cemetery.

Daniel K. Kirk
Ombudsman

Daniel K. Kirk, was born in Brooklyn, was a lifelong resident of the Rockaway community.

Daniel worked as an ombudsman for Equitable Life. He served in the Navy during World War II and the Korean War. He was a member of St. Thomas More Church. Daniel was a member of the American Legion #272.

He was preceded in death by his brother John.

He was survived by his wife Dorothea (nee Kraft); his sons Daniel, Kevin, Thomas, Robert and Stephen; his daughter Kristen Shine; his brother Thomas A; his 18 grandchildren.

Interment under the direction of Denis S. O'Connor, Inc. will be held at St. John's Cemetery on February 15, 2002.

Isabel M. Maziejko
Health Care Worker

Isabel M. Maziejko, born in Rockaway, was a long time resident of the Rockaway community before moving to Haverhill in 1999. She died on February 8, 2002 at the age of 82.

Isabel was a health care worker at Far Rockaway High School for 25 years until her retirement in 1980.

She was the wife of the late Ladislaus Maziejko, who died in 1960.

She is survived by her three daughters, Joan R. Perrone, Pamela M. Maloney and Gloria P. Yanchewski; her five grandchildren; her five great grandchildren; two sisters, Gertrude C. Connolly and Gloria C. Miles; brother, Walter Cowan; and several nieces and nephews.

Interment under the direction of C. Frank Linnehan and Son was held at the Pinelawn National Cemetery in Calverton, Long Island.

Mary P. McEneaney
Secretary

Mary P. McEneany, born in the Bronx, was a long time resident of Far Rockaway and Broad Channel. She died on February 7, 2002 at the age of 60.

Mary was a secretary at the Roy Reuther House. She was a member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary.

She is survived by her husband Denis; her son, Denis; her daughter Karen; her sister Margaret; her brothers Frank, James and Kevin; her mother Frances; her grandchildren Chloe, Sydney and Molly; her 15 nephews and nieces; her sister in law Rosemary; her brother in law John.

Internment under the direction of the Hillebrand Funeral Home was held at St. Charles Cemetery.

Johnny Simmons
Hospital Worker

Johnny Simmons, born in Goldsboro, North Carolina, was a long time resident of the Rockaway community. He passed away on February 3, 2002.

Johnny worked as a hospital worker for most of his life. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Far Rockaway as well as the Redeemed Bethel Cogic.

He is survived by his children, John Anthony, Cassandra, Dawn, Tyrone and James; his siblings Sandra, Blonnie, Doreha, Annie, Almarie, Pelham,Lorenzo and Godfrey; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Interment under the direction of Jeremiah C. Gaffney's Funeral Home, Inc. was held at All Saints Cemetery.
