Hitting The Ground Running

Hitting The Ground Running

Last week, the newly elected City Council representative for District 31, James Sanders, Jr., "came home" to engage in a walking tour of the Far Rockaway Shopping Mall area and business district. Previously, he held a town hall meeting to address the issue of wild dogs roaming throughout the Rockaway community. Sanders has even ventured onto the national stage by joining other members of the Council, and top Washington officials, in an attempt to have the issue of reparations for slavery addressed. While he seems to be off to a strong start, this is nothing dramatically different from what the people of Far Rockaway have seen in the past with other representative. Those who have held the position started out with great promise, only to end up being the boil on the butt of the district he now serves. Remember, as good as the Kentucky Derby favorite "Point Given" looked, he languished in the backstretch and failed to get the job done. We can only hope that Sanders will go on to prove that he is the warhorse that District 31 elected him to be.
